The ride

This is the full classic circuit. Start in Chiang Mai, ride 107 and 1095 to Pai, keep west to Mae Hong Son, then stay on Highway 108 all the way south through Khun Yuam, Mae Sariang and Hot.

Highway 1095 Chiang Mai to Mae Hong Son is 245 km. Highway 108 the other way through Hot, Mae Sariang and Khun Yuam is 349 km. The whole loop is about 600 km. Four days is the shape of the trip: Pai, Mae Hong Son, Mae Sariang, then the long run home.

Pai is still the first night. Mae Hong Son is still the lake. Mae Sariang is the quiet last night — wooden shophouses, Wat Utthayarom and Wat Boonruang — before 108 climbs and drops toward Hot and the four-lane run into Chiang Mai.
