Mae Hong Son Loop I by motorcycle

Leave Chiang Mai on 107 and 1095 for Pai and Mae Hong Son, drop south to Khun Yuam, cross 1263 to Mae Chaem, and ride home over Doi Inthanon or through Hot.

Not yet ridden. GPX is not published yet.

The ride

Chiang Mai to Pai is the first mountain day: Highway 107 north to Mae Malai, then 1095 over the ridge. About 135 km of paved corners. Sleep in Pai.

The next day 1095 keeps west through Pang Mapha (Soppong) to Mae Hong Son — 107 to 111 km, with the long northern fuel gap after Soppong. Park by Nong Jong Kham, walk Wat Jong Kham and Wat Jong Klang, and climb Wat Phra That Doi Kong Mu in the morning.

South on Highway 108 to Khun Yuam, then take Route 1263 across to Mae Chaem instead of staying on 108 to Mae Sariang. Fill up before you leave town. From Mae Chaem choose Highway 1009 over Doi Inthanon at 2,565 m, or 1088 and 108 through Ob Luang and Hot. Either road brings you back to Chiang Mai.
